We’re delighted to announce that The Royal Hotel & Bar has been recognised as one of the best hotels in Lancaster. We’ve been awarded Trip Advisor’s Travellers’ Choice Award for 2021. You don’t need us to tell you how tough the last year has been, particularly for hospitality and accommodation. It really lifted our spirits to know that even during long periods of closure and operating under restrictions, we were still able to meet your expectations.

Throughout the last lockdown, we kept the hotel open for guests travelling for permitted reasons. We did our best to be there for the people who needed us and welcomed some lovely guests. We knew deep down that with the bar and kitchen closed under restrictions, we weren’t able to offer the experience people have come to expect from The Royal. Guests turning up to a dark bar, no tempting smells wafting from the kitchen and chairs stacked on tables was never how we wanted to operate our venue. It really meant a lot to us that those who did stay were so understanding of the situation. Thank you! With your help, we were able to retain our Travellers’ Choice award for another year running.

Fingers crossed, the days of a ghostly quiet venue are behind us now. The bar is open, Chef Gary is back in the kitchen, and we’re now able to welcome all hotel guests regardless of your reason for travel. Looking for hotels in Lancaster because you’re visiting friends you haven’t seen for over a year? Breaking up a long journey down from Scotland or planning a romantic weekend getaway in our historic city? Whatever the reason, we’re ready to welcome you back with open arms. Of course, we’ll do that part safely from a 2-metre distance whilst wearing a face mask.
We are still operating with limited seating inside whilst under restrictions. We would always recommend booking a table with us for drinking or dining. If you’re part of a larger group – our newly renovated beer garden has plenty of space. If it rains – which it does very much like to here in Lancaster – we’ve got shelter and heaters outside.
It’s been a while and there are still a lot of rules to follow and things to remember. If you’re in any doubt about what to expect when you visit us, feel free to get in touch. We’ll do our best to answer any questions.
